Localities / Maps for Future Cities

Developed for Kingston Foundation Prep in 2022

2 part workshop with 16-18 year olds, focussing on the role of artists and designers in relation to space. By recording inside and outside through drawing, sculpture and sound art; and combining visual research into the local area of Kingston with the use of performance and character, the day progresses into the imagining of new geographies, in order to investigate how art relates to the politics of cities and landscapes.

Part 1: Localities

Part 2: Maps for Future Cities

What year is it?
Who lives there?
What do they do?
What do they wear?
What do they need to survive?
Where is your city?
What is it made of?
What is the climate like?
What is the natural environment like?
What is the built environment like?
What is your city called?
What are their hobbies?
What is their culture like?
What is their history/mythology?
Is it a utopia or a dystopia?
